Playing for Success centres

RHA have played a lead role in the development of Playing for Success (PfS) since it’s inception in 1998. Providing support and challenge through the Critical Friend role to centres, partner organisations, local authorities, and the Department for Education.

These motivational education centres are vibrant, exciting and stimulating places for young people to learn. Situated within sports clubs’ ground and sporting venues, there are a range of sports involved, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, horseracing, and crown green bowls to name just a few.

Students at the centres are supported to improve their skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT – the foundation stones of their education – through innovative learning programmes that use the sport and the venue as an inspirational resource.

Thousands of young people have benefitted, with over 500,000 children aged 10-14 attending PfS centres, and gaining improved skills, motivation, and self-esteem as a result of their time spent in the centres, giving them a real boost, which is then built upon back in school.
